How does the INTERWRITE®BOARD connect to the computer?
The INTERWRITE®BOARD connects to the computer via a serial, USB or wireless Bluetooth connection.
Why are there different colored pens for the INTERWRITE®BOARD when you can choose the pen color from the Interwrite software menu?
There are different colored pens for two reasons: 1) You can set the software to auto-detect a pen change so that it will recognize the pen you are holding. 2) In dry-erase modes, the pen color indicates how the computer or printer recognizes that pen. In other words, if you have a red Expo dry-erase marker in a blue electronic pen, the computer and printer will recognize it as blue.
What is Enumeration?
Enumeration happens when a Plug-N-Play device is plugged in or is unplugged. This signals Windows to load or unload a driver for the corresponding device. If a driver has not been loaded or can’t be found, Windows will ask for the driver.
Since adding Service Pack 2 to Windows XP, my Bluetooth connection does
not work properly. How can I fix the problem?
Please
read Bluetooth
Connection Fix for Windows XP with Service Pack 2 [.pdf].
Why do I get warnings about the lack of a digital signature when I install the TDK device driver on my system?
Microsoft encourages hardware manufacturers
to submit their drivers for testing with Windows.
If Microsoft deems a driver is acceptable,
it provides a digital signature that the manufacturer
can include in his driver. Windows checks for
the digital signature in a device driver and
deals with it, based on the setting in the
Control Panel/Systems/Hardware/Driver Signing
option. You have the option of ignoring the
presence or absence of a digital signature,
being warned if a digital signature is absent from
the driver you are trying to install, or blocking
the installation of an unsigned driver. According
to Microsoft, the default setting is Warn. The
system will warn the user that the device driver
being installed is not signed and give the user
the option of going ahead with the installation,
or canceling it.
The
TDK Bluetooth device drivers are not signed.
In addition, they set up a number of virtual
COM ports on which the driver is installed.
So, when the Driver Signing option is set to
Warn, a warning will appear for the real COM port
and for each virtual COM port the driver sets
up.
You can remedy this situation either by
accepting each warning and electing to install
the driver, or by going into Control Panel/Systems/Hardware/Driver
Signing and clicking on the Ignore radio button.
What is the maximum range for Interwrite Bluetooth devices?
The maximum range for Interwrite Bluetooth devices is approximately 10 meters (32 feet).
How many Bluetooth devices can you have running at once?
The maximum number of Bluetooth devices (Pads or Boards) active at one time is 7 for a single Bluetooth hub (transmitter/receiver).
Can multiple Bluetooth hubs be used on a single computer to increase the number of devices beyond 7?
No, only one hub can be used at a time with the computer. Additional wired (USB or Serial) devices can be added.
Is it possible to have Bluetooth and RF Interwrite devices working at the same time?
Yes, the Bluetooth and RF devices can work together.
What is the maximum length for a USB cable?
The maximum length for a USB cable is 5 meters (197 inches). The power transferred through a USB cable that is greater than 5 meters in length will start to decrease, and the device may not function properly.
How fast is USB?
The maximum data transfer rate for USB 1.1
is 12Mbps (12,000,000 million bits per second).
The maximum data transfer rate for USB 2.0
is 480Mbps (480,000,000 million bits per second).
Will my USB 1.1 device work with my new computer using USB 2.0?
Yes, USB 2.0 is backward compatible with USB 1.1.
Can my USB device be plugged into a hub?
Yes, as long as the hub uses an external power supply. We do not recommend or support this configuration. Before requesting help from Technical Support, please try connecting the device directly to the computer's USB port.
How much power does the USB bus supply?
The USB bus supplies 0.5 watts minimum and 2.5 watts maximum of power per peripheral. A total of 60 watts maximum power per USB bus.
How many USB devices can be connected at the same time on one USB bus?
The USB specification calls out a total of 127 devices per bus.
