General Information


Description

Interwrite Response is a comprehensive electronic student response system for testing, polling, and surveying a group of people.

The bluez packages can be installed using your specific Distribution's Package Manager.  For more information on Linux Bluetooth support, please see http://www.bluez.org/

After confirming that the required bluez packages are installed, please make sure that the rfcomm service is running.  See your distribution-specific documentation to determine how you can check this.

"sudo" must be installed to a location that is included in the system's default search path; otherwise it will not be found.  The default search path on most systems includes '/usr/bin', but you should refer to your system's documentation for more details.

This package adds support for running 32 bit applications within a 64 bit Operating System. Please see your specific distributions documentation for information on installing the "ia32-libs" package.

Installation Information


Installing the Interwrite Response software from the Interwrite Response CD

  1. Log into the system with an account that has administrative privileges.  Linux users should log in as "root" or use "sudo" when launching the installation.
  2. Insert the Interwrite Response CD. If the installer does not startup automatically, run "Install Response" from the root directory of the CD.
  3. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation of the Interwrite Response software.
  4. Mac PowerPoint Add-in:
    1. Open PowerPoint and select the PowerPoint Menu.
    2. Select the Preferences… menu option. 
    3. Click on the View tab and uncheck the Project Gallery at startup option.
    4. Click on the OK button. 
    5. Select the Tools Menu.
    6. Select the Add-ins... menu option.
    7. Click on the Add... button. Navigate to the folder in which Response is installed.
    8. Select the PRS AddIn.ppa file and click on the Open button.
    9. The PRS Add-in file will be listed in the Add-in List. Click on the OK button.
    10. Restart PowerPoint.

    • Added full-featured firmware update functionality to Device Manager which includes Mobi Teacher, Mobi Learner, Mobi Hub, Pulse Hub, and Dual Board

    • Improved the Device Discovery process

    • Added hot-plug events for virtual serial devices; CPS RF Receiver, Interwrite Learning RF Receiver.

    • Enhanced Device Manager’s ability to communicate by allowing it to communicate on any random open port assigned by operating system

    • Added HTTP Server to Device Manager API, so Device Manager will now accept POST messages

    • Added the option to allow the user to store device preferences in a local or global directory. The user will be able to update through Device Manager Preferences.

     

  • Corrections

    • Fixed issue so Device Manager no longer hangs while discovering serial devices on Virtual COM ports used by other devices or software

    • Resolved issues which contributed to student responses being dropped

    • Fixed a problem with SRS Receivers getting disconnected

    • Fixed a problem with SRS Receivers failing to reconnect after multiple discoveries

    • Embed Response Chart onto PowerPoint Slide:
      • A copy of the Response question chart can be automatically embedded on the PowerPoint slide when the question is ended by selecting as a preference
    • New Reporting Features:
      • Answer series charting is now sorted by the number of responses
      • Allow the creation of a gradebook report for individual students or groups of students
      • The cumulative correct percentage is now displayed on the Response Chart
      • Study Guide reports were added which help students to understand which questions they answered correctly during homework,  direct participation, or self-paced modes
    • Session Data Features:
      • The last data export used is now saved by the Export Wizard
      • Instructors now have the ability to edit Session data for each student
      • Partial credit can now be assigned to a question to allow incremental scoring for different answers to a question
      • A student roster from Blackboard can be downloaded into the Response gradebook
      • Session or gradebook data from Response can be uploaded to a Blackboard gradebook
      • Added the ability to merge two or more Response sessions into a single session
    • Answer Key for Participation/Impromptu Session:
      • When using the Participation with Impromptu lesson type, users can now specify a pre-defined answer key
    • Game Mode:
      • Added the ability to include a display of the fastest correct answer for a question
      • Added the Leaderboad display to keep track of student or team scores throughout a session
    • Toggle Comprehension Meter On/Off for Virtual Clicker:
      • Allows the instructor to turn the Virtual Clicker comprehension meter on or off using preference setting
    • Backup Database Preference:
      • Added the ability to specify parameters for the backup procedure of the Response database. Users can specify the backup location, number of backups and when to perform the backup operation
